3-Day Family Trip to Tanzania Featuring Materuni Village Coffee tour
You will explore the Ngorongoro Crater, which is for most people one of the main reasons to come to Tanzania. It is home to the highest concentration of wildlife in Africa. If you love elephants, Tarangire NP is the place to be. It is known for its majestic baobab trees and has the largest concentration of elephants. The tour will include a visit to Materuni, located at the foothills of the magnificent Mt Kilimanjaro. It is home to the Chagas people and is famous for its aromatic, rich coffee.
The tour start and ending point is Arusha, Tanzania
Tour starts at 07hrs 00
Tour ends at 18hrs 00
From Arusha, drive up to the slopes of Mt Kilimanjaro, toward the village of Materuni. You’ll visit a coffee farm and learn how coffee is grown, harvested, and processed. Try your hand at roasting and preparing a fresh cup of coffee the Chagga way. After a delightful coffee break (so much better than the ones at work!), you’ll take a beautiful 45-min hike through the hills and valleys en-route to the Materuni Falls. You’ll pass through banana and coffee plantations, and up and down mini-valleys. Along the way, your guide will teach you about local plants and how they are used for food and traditional medicine. You’ll hear the falls before you see it. The falls are hidden away in a pristine valley with cliffs towering to 200ft overhead. The mountain water falls straight down in a shimmering curtain to splash in the rippling pool where you can float, take a swim, and chill out. You will have a local food buffet before driving back to Kikuletwa hot pool where you can swim until the evening.
Time: 3 hrs – Distance: 139.7km
After breakfast, we will collect you from your hotel and drive along a scenic route to Tarangire National Park. The beauty of the park will offer you an unparalleled game viewing you have never seen before. During the dry season, elephants abound, and families strip the ancient baobab trees and the acacia bark from the thorn trees. Breathtaking views of the Maasai steppe and the mountains in the south, make a stopover at Tarangire a memorable experience. You can see herds of elephants and animals like zebras, buffaloes, and oryxes, who venture from Maasai to Tarangire in search of water. There are also a few lions prowling around looking for unexpecting prey around the wilderness. There are more breeding species of birds found in Tarangire National Park than anywhere else on the planet. After lunch, drive to the Kizumba campsite for dinner and your overnight stay.
Time: 3 hrs 20min – Distance: 172.9km
After enjoying an early morning coffee, involve all your senses on the morning game drive. You may experience the thrill of a kill. An estimated 7,000 wildebeest, 4,000 zebra, 3,000 elands, 3,000 gazelle, 600 hyenae, 200-300 elephants, more than 60 lions, 30 rhino, and many others abound in this area. In all, over 25,000 wild creatures call the Ngorongoro Crater home. For friends of the winged ones, look no further. Within this caldera, you will find 500 bird species, like ostriches, Kori bustards, secretary birds, and many more. If you visit from November to April, you will witness the myriad migratory birds that take up residence here. Indigenous tribes are permitted to live in a conservation area, and local Maasai graze their livestock on the crater floor in harmony with nearby herds of buffalo and wildebeest. From here, there will be nothing left unseen on your 3-day tour. Later, return to Arusha with wonderful stories to tell.
